DAYTON \u2014 Larry Hansgen, WHIO Radio\u2019s host of Miami Valley\u2019s Morning News, has been honored with a Marconi Radio Award from the National Association of Broadcasters. This award is among the most prestigious in the radio industry.<\/p>\n

\u201cTo be nominated for this award is a very prestigious honor,\u201d said Nick Roberts, WHIO Radio Station Manager. \u201cTo win is a once-in-a-lifetime. This just reinforces how our employees really care about making the community a better place. Working at one radio station for a decade is a feat. To be at WHIO since 1981 puts Larry in rarefied air in broadcasting.\u201d<\/p>\n

The 2025 Marconi Radio Award for \u201cMedium Market Personality of the Year\u201d was presented to Hansgen on \u201cradio\u2019s biggest night,\u201d at The Edison Ballroom in New York, New York. WHIO Radio was honored with two nominations in the same category: Larry Hansgen for Miami Valley\u2019s Morning News and Todd Hollst for the Evening Edge.<\/p>\n

Upon receiving the award, Hansgen said, \u201cI love my job. I love the people with whom I work and the wonderful community I serve.\u201d<\/p>\n

Hansgen has hosted Miami Valley\u2019s Morning News since 2003. Among WHIO Radio\u2019s most tenured employees, Hansgen began as an overnight board operator in 1981. Rising through the ranks, he was quickly promoted to Sports Director, and since that time has become the voice of the University of Dayton basketball and football.<\/p>\n

\u201cLarry is a pillar of the radio community,\u201d said Darren Moore, Senior Vice President of Sales and General Manager of Cox Media Group Ohio. \u201cHe loves Dayton and that really comes through in the exemplary way he serves listeners.\u201d<\/p>\n

WHIO Radio recently celebrated 90 years of news and is proud to serve the Miami Valley community as the top weather, traffic and news station.<\/p>\n
