{"id":98201,"date":"2025-10-23T01:38:14","date_gmt":"2025-10-23T01:38:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/98201\/"},"modified":"2025-10-23T01:38:14","modified_gmt":"2025-10-23T01:38:14","slug":"catherine-connolly-on-course-for-commanding-victory-in-presidential-race","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/98201\/","title":{"rendered":"Catherine Connolly on course for commanding victory in presidential race"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Independent candidate Catherine Connolly is now leading Fine Gael\u2019s Heather Humphreys by 19 points, in the final poll ahead of election day on Friday.<\/p>\n<p>The latest Business Post\/Red C poll shows that Ms Connolly is on 44% support, an increase of eight points compared to the previous poll.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">This compares to Ms Humphreys, who remains unchanged on 25%.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Fianna F\u00e1il\u2019s Jim Gavin, who dropped out of the race earlier this month but who remains on the ballot paper, is on 10%. This is down by 2 points.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Undecided voters, meanwhile, are at 21%, a fall of six points.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishexaminer.com\/presidential-election-2025\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin-bottom:10px; width:100%; height:auto;\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/4823610_1_org_640x150_banner_election_large.jpg\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"\">As part of the poll, undecided voters were asked to pick a candidate, with only half opting to do so.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">This was split between Ms Connolly and Ms Humphreys evenly, which increased the Independent candidate to 49% compared to the Fine Gael candidate on 30%.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Excluding Mr Gavin and undecided voters, Ms Connolly\u2019s support is increased to 55%.
