Taipei, Oct. 29 (CNA) “Comet Lemmon,” believed to be the brightest comet of the year, is expected to reach its peak brightness on Thursday, according to the Taipei Astronomical Museum.
In a Wednesday news release, the museum said the comet is gradually approaching the sun and brightening, with its luminosity forecast to peak on Thursday before fading rapidly after passing perihelion on Nov. 8.
During this period, the comet can be observed with binoculars and may even be visible to the naked eye under favorable conditions, the museum said.
For the best view of the comet, the public should check the skies within about an hour after sunset, around 6 p.m., from a wide, dark location with minimal light pollution, the museum added.
Staff at the Mount Lemmon Survey in Arizona discovered the comet, officially known as C/2025 A6, on Jan. 3, 2025, the museum said.
