Now that “KPop Demon Hunters” has become a cultural phenomenon, Rei Ami said she’s “waiting for the call” about a potential sequel.
“I’m waiting for the call, just like you! You’re gonna find out when I do, so we’ll chat then,” she told E! News on Friday at the red carpet for Heidi Klum’s 24th Annual Halloween party.
Ami arrived at Klum’s Halloween bash dressed as her character Zoey, wearing patchwork parachute pants, as seen in the film’s opening scene.
When discussing the ubiquity of the “KPop Demon Hunters” inspired Halloween costumes this year, the musician said, “Oh my god, it’s everywhere, I can’t get a break from it.”
She continued, “And I’m not complaining, please! I want to see more.”
The film about a K-pop girl group that hunts mythical monsters when not filling stadiums became the most-streamed movie in Netflix history by garnering 236 million views.
While speaking about the popularity of the film, Ami added that she still hasn’t processed it becoming a record-breaking hit for the streamer and soaring on the music charts with its soundtrack.
“This is a cultural phenomenon,” she said. “I’m so honored, in awe and just truly humbled by the power of music and good art and how it can really, truly—it sounds so cliché—change the world. That’s exactly what this film and this soundtrack did, and it brought so much hope and light into such a dim, grim world, and I feel really privileged to be a part of it.”
In addition to Ami, EJAE and Audrey Nuna also provide vocals for the fictional group Huntr/x in “KPop Demon Hunters.”
