Fans just got their best look yet at Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom suit in Avengers: Doomsday. After kicking off filming for the crossover event in March of this year, Marvel Studios just released the first sneak peek of what Doctor Doom will look like in the MCU.

While Avengers: Doomsday is still filming, Marvel highlighted the upcoming project at Disney’s 2026 Merchandise Expo in Shanghai. Displayed at the expo were several pieces of promotional art from the film, including the first official image of Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom via CinXperience on X. The image features a stunning look at the suit that Doctor Doom will wear in the upcoming film.

The exhibition also featured as its main attraction a stunning light show that featured hints at what fans can expect from the next Avengers film, including a sneak peek at new team logos for the Avengers, X-Men, and Fantastic Four, a few plot details, and, most exciting of all, a few extra shots of the official design for the MCU’s Doctor Doom. Check out the full light show below via AvengersUpdate on X.

Doctor Doom’s appearance has been a point of speculation for the MCU fandom for months now, with Marvel remaining characteristically secretive about the character’s design and motivation. However, it appears from the promotional art from the expo that Doctor Doom will be strikingly accurate to the comics in his MCU debut. The villain will don his iconic green cloak over a suit of plated armor, with patches of chainmail filling in the areas around his joints. The focal point of the costume, Doctor Doom’s ever-recognizable face mask, is also ripped directly from the comics, covering his entire face save for two rectangular slits for his eyes.

Fans have been given a full view of Doctor Doom’s MCU costume. Both the 2005 Fantastic Four franchise and the unreleased 1994 film aimed for comic-accurate character designs, only to come up short with uninspired designs that couldn’t quite live up to the original. The 2015 reboot, on the other hand, went in a completely different direction that portrayed Doctor Doom’s armor as a metal coating over his body rather than a removable costume.

It appears that the MCU is hoping to secure comic book accuracy with its version of Doctor Doom. The superhero movie powerhouse has introduced comic book-accurate superhero costumes before, particularly in recent films like The Fantastic Four: First Steps. The upcoming Spider-Man: Brand New Day has also gone in this direction, featuring a brand-new suit for Tom Holland’s Spider-Man that is already being called one of the character’s best live-action suit designs ever. This first look could be promotional art, and may not be the final costume as far as fans know, but is promising for how Doom may look in the MCU.

Avengers: Doomsday opens in theaters on Dec. 18, 2026.
