Here’s your roundup from Saturday night’s 2025 LACMA Art+Film Gala red carpet — a mix of elegance, nostalgia, and a few surprises that kept the evening from feeling too predictable.

Velvet Revival
Demi Lovato opted for a sculptural black-and-navy Salih Balta dress with a contrast between the structured bodice and voluminous velvet skirt bringing a regal touch that felt both modern and timeless. James Allen Diamonds and a sleek updo completed her look — simple, confident, and quietly commanding. Demi has been cosplaying as Charli XCX recently, so it was good to see her being her own woman on this red carpet.

Spot On Glamour
Elsa Hosk wore an Ermanno Scervino strapless gown featuring delicate grey polka dots and a daring thigh-high slit. Her Aquazzura Artiste pumps were an odd match — sandals would’ve served the breezy silhouette better — but the overall effect was glamorously effortless, with retro waves adding to the mood.

Retro Red Moment
I appreciate the eclectic styling of Hannah Einbinder’s Valentino Resort 2026 red dress with the Valentino Garavani Devain floral bag as it was full of character, and played to her offbeat sensibility. But the lace tights and cream pumps felt like they belonged to another outfit entirely.

Archival Allure
Izabel Goulart brought back the sensuality of Tom Ford’s Gucci era in this cut-out gown that has been waiting for her to pull from the archives. This dress reminds us why Ford’s Gucci remains one of fashion’s most unforgettable legacies.

Vintage Muse
Justine Lupe wore a beaded Bob Mackie gown from the archives, which beautifully echoed her classic sensibilities. The intricate craftsmanship, signature of Mackie’s heyday, felt timeless rather than nostalgic — proof that a great design never dates. Styled with Boucheron jewels and Jimmy Choo Etana sandals, she looked radiant and refined, with the delicate shawl serving as her only nod to vintage glamour.

Cape Elegance
Kathryn Hahn took my breath away in Lanvin Fall 2025 by Peter Copping. The Concorde black velvet cape gown, edged with crystal embroidery, struck that rare balance of an understated yet commanding presence. A hall of famer from Kathryn.

Barely There
Kristen Wiig leaned into sheer territory with her Rodarte Spring 2024 black lace dress. Considering she paired it with a skin-tone bra, the black pants felt like a deliberate choice — as if to remind us that, yes, it’s see-through. And yes, we know.

Twist & Texture
Lizzy Greene’s custom Cult Gaia chintz plissé gown was a standout. The burgundy hue and intricate knotted details turned a strapless silhouette into a masterclass in craftsmanship.

Modern Goddess
Ryan Destiny was less red carpet, more goddess descending from heaven in her custom Cult Gaia gown. There was something ethereal about the fabric moved — light, fluid, and almost otherworldly.

Old Hollywood
Samara Weaving channelled vintage siren energy in Tamara Ralph Spring 2024 Couture gown with the mint-green feathers and sheer sleeves flirted with retro glamour. Chopard jewels and softly curled hair added the finishing touch — think 1930s screen goddess reimagined for 2025.

effortless edge
Stella Maxwell wore a daring backless AMIRI Spring 2026 gown that looked poured on. The metallic-silver fringe fabric shimmered with every turn, sculpting her figure.

The look nailed AMIRI’s sleek brand of rock star rebellion — glamorous, bold, and unapologetically confident.

minimalist muse
Zoey Deutch wore a Donna Karan strapless column gown featuring a Tiffany & Co. sculptural cuff detail. I’ve enjoyed her minimalist looks recently, but this one lacked impact and was among the more underwhelming looks of the night. The gown felt too flat, shapeless, and lifeless for my liking.
