Expect to see more dinosaurs on the big screen as Jurassic World Rebirth could get a sequel. According to CBR, reports indicate that a follow-up to the 2025 science fiction blockbuster is in the works, and that Universal Pictures plans to bring the whole gang back together for another round.
It was reported that Jurassic World Rebirth’s director, Gareth Edwards, is in “final negotiations” to work on the sequel and that Universal has eyes on bringing back Scarlett Johansson, Mahershala Ali, and Jonathan Bailey to reprise their roles as Zora Bennett, Duncan Kincaid, and Dr. Henry Loomis. As of writing, there is no official announcement of a sequel. However, producer Frank Marshal teased that there’s room for a follow-up, as Jurassic World Rebirth “left the door quite open” for a sequel.
Jurassic World Rebirth is the seventh installment of the Jurassic Park franchise and a standalone sequel to 2022’s Jurassic World Dominion. Rebirth introduces a new team of dinosaur enthusiasts who travel to a research facility to collect samples from three dinosaurs in an attempt to cure heart disease. The feature was a massive success, grossing $868 million at the box office, making it the 4th-highest-grossing film of 2025, sitting between A Minecraft Movie and Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle.
What’s the ‘Jurassic Park’ Franchise About?
Jurassic Park is a science fiction franchise based on Michael Crichton‘s book of the same name. The films can be divided into separate trilogies, yet they carry the same message about the ethics of science and playing God, survival, and corruption. 1993’s Jurassic Park and its sequels, The Lost World: Jurassic Park and Jurassic Park III, take place on Isla Nublar, which hosts a research facility that brought dinosaurs back to life by extracting their DNA from amber. Unfortunately, these dinosaurs, along with a sabotaged security system, put the park at risk, and it was never opened to the public, but the island is revisited for various reasons.
In 2015, the franchise returned with a new trilogy of films under the Jurassic World banner. These films take place 12 years after the events of the first Jurassic Park film, when a new theme park, Jurassic World, becomes a massive success. But disaster strikes (again) when a new dinosaur, the Indominus Rex, becomes a threat and the island is abandoned. The follow-up films, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom and Jurassic World Dominion, take place years after Jurassic World, where humanity’s corruption continues to be addressed as dinosaurs are auctioned off or used to manipulate the food supply.
Jurassic World Dominion ends with the dinosaurs roaming freely, and humans now have to learn to co-exist with them, thus setting the scene for Jurassic World Rebirth and its potential follow-ups. Jurassic World Rebirth is now available to stream on Peacock. Follow Collider for the latest updates.
