As details about Avengers: Doomsday‘s trailer release come out, Disney is breaking MCU’s 14-year winning streak — an indication of how much things have changed for the franchise. It has been 6 years since the Infinity Saga ended with the record-breaking Avengers: Endgame. Since then, Kevin Feige and the rest of Marvel Studios have been in rebuilding mode, setting up its next major crossover in the Multiverse Saga.
Unlike the Infinity Saga, the Multiverse Saga plays out a little quicker than its predecessor. With a mix of movie and TV stories building towards another culmination, the MCU has a lot more to juggle in terms of narrative throughlines. Beyond that, the foundation of the Multiverse Saga is also more complicated, not to mention shakier.
Regardless of all that, the hype for Avengers: Doomsday exists, and it’s going to only get more intense as Disney begins marketing the film. That said, the way the House of Mouse is dropping its first trailer is a departure from MCU’s previous approach.
Disney Attaches The First Avengers: Doomsday Trailer To Avatar: Fire and Ash

As previously confirmed, the first Avengers: Doomsday trailer will be debuting in front of Avatar: Fire and Ash when it releases in theaters on December 19. This marks the debut of any kind of footage from Joe and Anthony Russos’ comeback MCU project since they wrapped up the Infinity Saga. Avengers: Doomsday was supposed to release on May 2025, then it was pushed back to May 2026, and finally December of the same year. Assuming it sticks to that, Disney is starting marketing for the film a full year before it hits theaters.
Beyond that, however, the House of Mouse is also changing the trailer rollout approach that it has been using for Avengers film since 2012’s The Avengers — it is attaching Avengers: Doomsday’s first-look to a big blockbuster’s premiere. Previously, Disney simply debuted the initial trailers for all four MCU crossover films to the public — either through a simple guest stint with the Russos on GMA for Avengers: Infinity War or just simply share it online like with Avengers: Endgame. People didn’t have to watch a different film to watch the trailers for the first time.
Why Disney Is Changing Avengers’ Trailer Release Approach For Doomsday

Much has happened to the MCU since the Infinity Saga ended. It’s no secret that the Multiverse Saga didn’t exactly pan out the way that Marvel Studios had hoped, as it has been mired with scandals, divisive projects, and personnel changes. This is potentially one of the reasons why they are starting promotions for Avengers: Doomsday far ahead from its actual release. However, attaching its first trailer to Avatar: Fire and Ash may be a scheme to get more people to go to theaters for James Cameron’s new film.
For what it’s worth, Avatar: The Way of Water grossed $684.1 million in the United States and Canada, with a worldwide total of $2.320 billion. An impressive haul, especially in the post-pandemic era. That said, there shouldn’t be any issue if Disney wants to lure more people to watch its sequel by adding an extra incentive such as the Avengers: Doomsday trailer. Despite the MCU’s Multiverse Saga issues, there’s no doubt that it still has a major pull, as evidenced by its unique but intriguing production announcement for the upcoming film.
