Sunday’s opening ceremony may have marked the official start of China’s National Games, but some of the sports were already days into their competitions.
Besides cyclist Ceci Lee Sze-wing winning the road race in Zhuhai, several other Hongkongers were in action on Sunday, and a few more have a big day to come on Monday.

Monday’s highlights
Medals are up for grabs on Monday for Hong Kong in rowing and handball, while the swimmers enter the fray.
In rowing, Hong Kong’s Chiu Hin-chun will contest the men’s lightweight single sculls A final at the Guangdong International Rowing Centre in Guangzhou on Monday morning.

Chiu will face stiff competition, having been beaten into third place in last week’s qualifying round. Anhui’s Zhu Bohao and Chen Wei-chun of Guizhou finished the 1,500 metres (0.9 miles) race ahead of him in Group 1, while Gu Jiantao, who finished fifth in September’s World Rowing Championships in Shanghai, won the Group 2 preliminary.
“All opponents were within one second of each other, so it’s going to be very competitive,” the 31-year-old said.
