Metallica‘s recent trip down under saw the thrash metal juggernauts give a nod to some local talent. During their November 01st Australian tour opener at the Optus Stadium in Perth, Australia, the band’s guitarist Kirk Hammett and bassist/vocalist Robert Trujillo took part in their customary off the cuff ‘doodle’.
That medley of covers found them delivering rough renditions of Budgie‘s “Crash Course In Brain Surgery” and “Zebra” by Aussie roots rockers The John Butler Trio. Now Butler himself has responded in kind. Taking to his Instagram, Butler recently served up the below rendition of Metallica‘s 1991 9x platinum megahit, “Enter Sandman“, serving up his version via a Chaturangui, an Indian slide guitar. He said alongside that:
“@metallica Enter Sandman, but make it John Butlery It’s taken me a minute to pull my shit together after Metallica covered my song Zebra last weekend in Perth/Boorloo… I thought I’d tackle one of their lesser known tracks, I hope you like it..”
