Channel 9 has confirmed to Yahoo Lifestyle that the network is undergoing a “consultation process” ahead of a string of redundancies as part of Nine Group’s $100 million cost-cutting program. And while the network would not confirm the names of individuals impacted, various reports say veteran 9News anchor and weather presenter Amber Sherlock is one of those on the way out.

She was notably absent from Monday night’s bulletin and Channel 9 did not reveal a reason why. The Daily Telegraph and The Australian are both reporting she’s one of the casualties.

A Channel 9 spokesperson told Yahoo Lifestyle they had to “respect” the consultation process. “Once that’s complete, we’re working through a plan to address internally,” they said.

Sherlock joined Nine in 2007 and famously made headlines in 2017 with ‘jacketgate’.

Leaked footage revealed her demanding that fellow reporter, Julie Snook, put on a jacket so that she, Sherlock, and another guest on the show weren’t all wearing white.

Nine takes axe to local bulletins

The Sydney newsroom is believed to be the hardest hit in the Nine restructure, with the Wide World of Sports division also undergoing significant changes.

At this stage, the Melbourne newsroom appears to be largely untouched, while the Today Show team also avoided major changes.

Hosts Karl Stefanovic and Sarah Abo have been confirmed to be continuing as Today leads for 2026.

However, the impacts in some other newsrooms are starting to leak. 9News Adelaide presenter Kate Collins did not have her contract renewed and was also absent from Monday night’s bulletin, with Brenton Ragless reading the news solo.

The Advertiser claimed the news was a “huge shock” to Collins, who was “absolutely blindsided”.

In Brisbane, 9News Queensland sports reporter Jonathan Uptin’s contract wasn’t renewed, TV Blackbox reports.

An internal email from Managing Director of Streaming and Broadcast, Amanda Laing, informed employees of the network’s “structural changes across News, Sport, Stan, Marketing and our Creative functions”, according to the publication

Livinia said she was

The move is set to “reduce duplication, drive greater collaboration and deliver commercial growth for the Nine Group”.

This comes after 9News Melbourne’s Livinia Nixon announced she would be stepping back as a weather presenter after more than 20 years, revealing she wanted to spend more time with her family.

Nixon, who had been with the network for over 20 years, will continue to appear on Getaway and Postcards, and she will conclude her tenure on 9News on November 18.

Clint Stanaway also announced in September that he had resigned as host of Weekend Today and weekend sports presenter on 9News Melbourne, making the choice to leave after nearly 25 years with the network.

Stanaway said he wanted to pursue “a better work-life balance” and that he would continue his role in radio on Nova’s Jase & Lauren.

He told the Big Bros podcast that he experienced “significant burnout” working three jobs, and he had made the “really tough” decision to leave Nine because he “needed to get [his] life back”.
