MANILA – The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) received 25 boxes of doxycycline hydrochloride (Doxicon 100 mg capsules) for its soldiers heavily engaged in relief and response missions following the series of powerful typhoons that pummeled the country.

These medicines were donated by FPJ Panday Bayanihan party-list in partnership with Jackpharma Inc. on Tuesday, the AFP said in a statement Wednesday.

It added that the donation took place after a courtesy call of FPJ Panday Bayanihan party-list Rep. Brian Poe and Jackpharma Inc. director Jacko Hernandez with AFP chief Gen. Romeo Brawner Jr.

The donation aims to protect AFP personnel, reservists and first responders who are regularly exposed to health risks in flood-affected and disaster-prone areas.

Doxycycline hydrochloride, an antibiotic belonging to the tetracycline class, is used to treat a wide range of bacterial infections such as those affecting the respiratory and urinary tracts, skin, eyes, and intestines, as well as for the prevention of malaria.

“The AFP conveys its gratitude to FPJ Panday Bayanihan, Rep. Brian Poe, who is an Army Reservist with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel, and Jackpharma Inc. for their timely support to the military’s disaster response operations,” the AFP said.

It added that it remains steadfast in its commitment to stand at the forefront of humanitarian assistance and disaster response efforts, working closely with stakeholders to save lives and help affected families recover. (PNA)
