The Batman star has found his next role in yet another comic book movie, and will lead the Russo brothers’ take on Ordained.
Per The Hollywood Reporter, “Farrell will star as Father Roy Craig, a priest who performs last rites on a mob boss who miraculously survives — but not before confessing his crimes to the father. Soon after, Father Roy finds himself targeted by hitmen, corrupt cops and gangsters — all sent by the mob boss who wants to silence him. But Father Roy secretly has a violent past that makes him a more dangerous target than anyone imagines. (Luckily for his adversaries, he does follow the commandant Thou Shall Not Kill).” Ordained will be written by the scribe behind John Wick, Derek Kolstad.
Ordained was published by Bad Idea and will be distributed by the Russo brothers’ production company, ABGO. The self-titled ABGOverse has been responsible for backing titles such as The Electric State, Everything, Everywhere, All At Once, and The Gray Man. Additionally, Joe and Anthony Russo have claimed Marvel movies such as The Avengers sequels and Captain America movies as ABGO productions as well. Per their official website, Ordained is just one of a few movies that will hail from the Russos. Written by Robert Venditti, Ordained follows Father Royston Craig as he attempts to commit to priesthood later in life, yet is ultimately caught up in the tumultuous world of organized crime. Ordained #1 releases on Dec. 10, 2025.
The Russo Brothers And Colin Farrell Have More Comic Book Movies To Work On Before Ordained

Before Ordained reaches theaters (or even bookshelves as the comic has yet to be released), both the Russo brothers and Colin Farrell have other superhero-inspired media to take on still. Joe and Anthony Russo will direct two upcoming Avengers sequels — Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars — while Farrell will make his return to Matt Reeves’ The Batman universe as The Penguin. The Russos have been Marvel mainstays, and Farrell was granted a spin-off series from The Batman that directly followed up on the events of The Batman, and gives way to the events of The Batman – Part II. The Penguin has not been renewed for a second season, though has fared well in the eyes of fans and critics alike.
Farrell recently spoke about another superhero project he’d love to see revisited. It was reported that Luca Guadagnino’s Sgt. Rock movie was scrapped by DC Studios. In an interview with Josh Horowitz, Farrell elaborated on the frustrations of Sgt. Rock not moving forward under the DC banner. “God that was a fantastic script, I wonder what’s happening with it. I was gonna do it with Luca [Guadagnino], and we spoke a couple of times, but I have no idea where it is now. It should be made,” he said. Variety previously reported that Sgt. Rock was canceled in April 2025, and that the adaptation has been on indefinite hold with the hopes of returning to production in 2026.
The Ordained movie does not have a release date.
