According to a recent update, production may have wrapped for the highly anticipated live-action movie adaptation of a popular video game series. As per reports, Street Fighter, helmed by filmmaker Kitao Sakurai, started filming over two months ago.
Street Fighter director’s story hints at filming wrap
A recent Instagram Story from director Kitao Sakurai showed a clapperboard and pixel art of Street Fighter characters such as Ken and Chun-Li, and some fans and news outlets have interpreted this as news that his upcoming Street Fighter movie has wrapped filming. However, there has been no official confirmation of this as of yet.
As mentioned above, Street Fighter began filming two months ago. Further, several actors associated with the project have reported that they had wrapped their filming for the movie. For instance, Orville Peck, who plays Vega in the movie, disclosed in October that he had finished filming.
Street Fighter is the latest adaptation of the iconic video game series of the same name. Previously, a live-action Street Fighter movie adaptation was released in 1994, featuring Jean-Claude Van Damme as Colonel William F. Guile. Another live-action movie, Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li, debuted in 2009. There was also Street Fighter: Assassin’s Fist, a web series/film adaptation of the games. It initially premiered on YouTube in 2014.
The official logline for the upcoming Street Fighter movie reads, “In 1993, estranged Street Fighters Ryu and Ken Masters are thrown back into combat when the mysterious Chun-Li recruits them for the next World Warrior Tournament: a brutal clash of fists, fate, and fury. But behind this battle royale lies a deadly conspiracy that forces them to face off against each other and the demons of their past. And if they don’t, it’s GAME OVER!”
Sakurai developed the movie from a screenplay by Dalan Musson. Street Fighter is scheduled to debut in theaters on October 16, 2026.
