Watch flower lure lost hummingbird to safety
A couple used a flower to lure a bird out of a California condo
A quick-thinking couple freed a trapped hummingbird in Oxnard, California.
Corrine L. Draper spotted the tiny bird stuck inside her condo. “I immediately called my husband and asked him to bring a hibiscus flower and a long pole,” Corrine said.
The hummingbird ignored the hibiscus but locked onto a coleus bloom from Corrine’s balcony, following the flower down from the ceiling before flying out the sliding door.

The hummingbird wasn’t the only small creature that needed a helping hand. In Portsmouth, Virginia, a kitten trapped in a storm drain was brought to safety thanks to a kind passerby and three trained rescuers.
After hearing desperate meows echoing from the drain, a 7-Eleven employee contacted PETA for help. Three team members rushed to the scene. Using towels and a garden hose fitted with a piece of wood, the rescuers carefully guided the frightened kitten through the winding pipes to safety.
