CAP RETURNS TO PRESENT DAY FOR AN ALL-NEW ERA! In CAPTAIN AMERICA #6, the aftermath of ONE WORLD UNDER DOOM has brought Latveria to the brink of civil war. Captain America deploys to protect civilians and investigate rumors of a weapons stockpile, and with warring factions tearing the country apart and a team of allies pursuing their own agendas, can Captain America hope to bring peace to Latveria? And is that even what his handlers want?

The double-meaning of “will” suggests Doom will die in the event, with various details hinting Captain America will have to confront the villain’s final contingency plan. Marvel has a habit of killing/resurrecting major characters before their movie debuts, taking advantage of the increased interest in the character.

With Doom set to appear as the main villain of 2026’s Avengers: Doomsday, it makes sense that Marvel would kill him now so he can be resurrected in the comics around the MCU release. The issues will also feature variant covers by Chip Zdarsky, J. Scott Campbell (below) and Josemaria Casanovas.

One World Under Doom has focused on Doom winning again and again and again. Whether facing the Avengers, the Masters of Evil or even Dormammu, Doctor Doom has triumphed every time. It makes sense that the story would end with the ultimate defeat, and Doctor Doom finally losing his life. However, Doom is known for planning for every contingency, and the phrase “Long Live Doom” suggests he has a replacement in the wings.

Potential replacements include his adopted son Kristoff Vernard and former prisoner Red Hulk, who has been battling Doom from within Latveria. Marvel confirms that new villain Salvation (below) will be on a mission to discover Doom’s secrets, opposed by Captain America and Red Hulk, who wants the forbidden knowledge for himself. Meanwhile, Cap will be joined by a new team of international heroes, all with their own agendas.

Meanwhile, Doctor Doom’s title as Sorcerer Supreme will pass to a new character, with former bearer Doctor Strange trapped in Asgard. Candidates include Scarlet Witch, Magik and likely inheritor Agatha Harkness – another character whose comic prominence is clearly tied to her MCU fame.

The fallout of One World Under Doom will establish a new status quo in the Marvel Universe – one in which it appears the iconic villain Doctor Doom will finally be dead, unleashing a contingency plan that will hit the Marvel Universe like an atom bomb.

Captain America #6 is coming December 17 from Marvel Comics, followed by the one-shot The Will of Doom #1 on December 24.
