John Oliver and team will have a busy two weeks of news to cover next week, because Last Week Tonight is off tonight while Oliver and his staffers attend the 77th Emmy Awards in Los Angeles.

A longstanding Emmy favorite, Last Week Tonight is nominated in two categories at Sunday night’s Emmys: Outstanding Writing for a Variety Series and Outstanding Scripted Variety Series. An Emmy favorite with 30 wins to its name, the show faces stiff competition this year as it faces off against Saturday Night Live‘s landmark 50th season for Outstanding Scripted Variety Series.

Fellow late-night nominees The Late Show with Stephen Colbert and The Daily Show will also be in Los Angeles Sunday. Both shows will be dark Monday as their staffers make their way back to New York.

The 77th Annual Emmy Awards air live on CBS tonight at 8pm ET/5pm PT. Last Week Tonight returns to HBO and HBO Max next Sunday, September 21, with the first of four consecutive new episodes planned through mid-October.
