Voce’s design draws on a concept by Muzio. Its rectangular framework is supported by a system of pillars that carve out three asymmetrical, cathedral-like “naves”. The focal point is a soundwall with a cutting-edge speaker system, created by designer and musician Giorgio Di Salvo, acoustic engineer Lucio Visentini, and acoustic panel manufacturer Knauf. The interior also features a digital lighting system by Anonima Luci that incorporates 350 metres of LEDs, and modular felt seating by Philippe Malouin and Meritalia. At the entrance to the venue hangs a custom neon sign by artist Marcello Maloberti, spelling out its name in huge letters.

Part of Voce’s offering – which aims to give music “the status of a work of art among other artworks” – will be a series of compositions created especially for the venue, which can only be experienced in situ. “Voce is a space designed to trigger new ideas and creative accelerations – which only interaction with a single work, in a dedicated space, can do,” says architect Stefano Boeri, Triennale Milano’s president. “That is why we want to create a collection of musical works that can only be appreciated in this space, in the same way that a Renaissance painting or Baroque sculpture can only be appreciated in an art museum.

Just as innovative in its own way is Gioco, a design-led children’s facility conceived by Cipelletti. Its furnishings consist of lightweight, modular cork and pine blocks that can be combined to create desks, seats, play structures, and partitions. Created by French studio Smarin, this furniture allows the space to be transformed into a playroom, screening venue, or dance studio at a moment’s notice. Visitors can look forward to children’s workshops and educational experiences inspired by the museum’s exhibitions. @triennalemilano
