A behind-the-scenes look at The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power season 3 reveals Middle-earth locations as filming wraps for the next episodes. The Rings of Power season 3 began filming in May 2025. The upcoming story arc will begin multiple years after season 2, focusing on the War of the Elves and Sauron from J.R.R. Tolkien’s Middle-earth stories.
Now, Prime Video has revealed The Rings of Power season 3 has finished filming, using a video to tease what Middle-earth locations to expect in the forthcoming episodes. The video is hosted by series newcomer Jamie Campbell Bower, showcasing shots of Amazon Studios, revealing various familiar locales from the show, including Khazad-dûm and Númenor. The Rings of Power season 2 ended on several major cliffhangers. The biggest was Sauron finally getting his hands on the Nine Rings of Men and killing Adar, taking control of the Orc armies for himself. The Elves have seemingly been driven into Rivendell’s future location, with the promise of going to war against the Dark Lord in Mordor.
In the meantime, it was revealed the Stranger is Gandalf, who begins training with Tom Bombadil to fight the Dark Wizard. Meanwhile, Nori and Poppy have gone with the Stoors to find their new home, seemingly laying the groundwork for Hobbits in the Third Age. In Númenor, Elendil escapes the city after Pharazôn starts trying the Faithful for treason.

As these storylines are set to continue in season 3, the cast of The Rings of Power will also be growing with a number of newcomers. This includes Bower and Andrew Richardson in currently-unknown starring roles, while supporting newcomers include Eddie Marsan, Zubin Varla, and Adam Young. Their characters and roles in the story are also under wraps.
Now that season 3 has wrapped production, it’ll be a waiting game for when its release window is going to be. Season 2 finished filming in June 2023 and was released in August 2024. If post-production takes the same amount of time, then season 3 might not come out until early 2027. However, a late 2026 release date is also possible.
With the upcoming episodes wrapped up, more news about The Rings of Power season 3 likely won’t arrive until it’s grown closer to release. But, with Prime Video confirming that filming is now complete, there will probably be plenty of new updates about the series’ continuation in the coming months.
All episodes of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power are streaming on Prime Video.
