By her early teens, Magness was touring extensively, opening for some of the biggest pop stars of the 2010s.

WASHINGTON — Singer Camryn Magness, a pop performer who shared stages with One Direction, Fifth Harmony and other major acts during her decade-long career, has died at 26.

Magness’ death was announced Tuesday in a statement posted to her social media accounts.

A cause of death was not disclosed in the announcement, but a source told People the performer died on Dec. 5 after an incident while riding an electric scooter. Her mother told TMZ the deadly collision happened in Miami, Florida.

“Our hearts are heavy as we mourn the loss of our beloved Camryn, a radiant force whose voice, coy and bright spirit touched so many,” the post from her family on her social media accounts read. “Whether beneath the waves or on stage, she met life with fearless energy and boundless kindness.”

The tribute included a brief clip of Magness scuba diving and closed by asking for prayers as her family and friends “navigate this difficult time.”

Miami Police told TMZ and the Daily News they were called on Dec. 5 “following a reported collision involving an electric mobility scooter and a pedestrian.” Magness was the passenger on the scooter, operated by a male whose name has not been released.

Magness rose to prominence early in her life. In a 2012 interview with Teen Vogue, she said she began her career at age 8, recording a demo that eventually connected her with manager Jeff Pringle. The following year, she collaborated with rock band Blessed by a Broken Heart on “Wait and See,” which later appeared in the 2011 film “Judy Moody and the Not Bummer Summer.”

By her early teens, Magness was touring extensively. She opened for Cody Simpson and Greyson Chance on their Waiting 4U Tour in 2011 and joined pop-punk group Allstar Weekend on a Midwest run the same year.

Her biggest exposure came shortly after: opening for One Direction on the band’s 2012 Up All Night Tour and again on the 2013 Take Me Home Tour, performing more than 60 shows across Europe.

In 2016, she hit the road once more, joining Fifth Harmony for the European leg of the group’s 7/27 Tour. Over the course of her career, she continued releasing singles and debuted an EP, Love Maps, in 2021.

The Denver native previously told Prelude Press that she felt “growing up in a very ‘normal’ place helped keep her down to earth and humble after moving to Los Angeles.

“Camryn will live on in our hearts forever,” her family wrote. “You are deeply loved and forever cherished.”
