For decades now, action and martial arts icon Jackie Chan has never really stopped throwing flurries of punches at opponents on the big screen. However, in recent years, these punches have been thrown amid comedy, fantasy, and even drama, with few thrillers in sight. Well, that all changes with Chan’s newest offering, which hurls the Rush Hour star into a grimly serious game of cat-and-mouse.

Titled The Shadow’s Edge, a new trailer for the action thriller has now been unleashed, as has a theatrical release date. The Shadow’s Edge, which finds Chan reuniting with Tony Leung Ka-Fai and going head-to-head in a truly epic showdown, is now all set to be released in the United Kingdom on October 3, 2025.

Written and directed by Larry Yang, The Shadow’s Edge is, in fact, a remake of the 2007 Hong Kong action thriller Eye in the Sky. The action outing finds Jackie Chan back doing what he does best (and no doubt the new trailer will have Chan fans squealing with delight) alongside Zhang Zifeng, Tony Leung Ka-fai, and Ci Sha, as well as Jun, Xing Yu, and Yuen Qiu. You can check out the official synopsis and trailer for The Shadow’s Edge below:

“A crew of criminal prodigies disappear with billions, evading capture by outsmarting the formidable “Sky Eye” surveillance system. Desperate and outmanoeuvred, the Macau police enlist the help of a legend—Wong Tak-Chung (Jackie Chan), a retired tracking expert. He mentors rookie officer He Qiuguo (Zhang Zifeng) and rebuilds an elite surveillance unit. Their mission: to track down the elusive “Wolf King,” Fu Longsheng (Tony Leung Ka Fai), the mastermind behind the heist. As the police close in, the thieves spring a trap of their own. Brains clash, loyalties are tested, and the ultimate cat-and-mouse game is about to begin…”

‘The Shadow’s Edge’ Has Been Dominating the Box Office for Weeks

Jackie Chan’s triumphant return to the world of action thrillers has now been dominating the box office in China for four weeks. Clearly, audiences were eager to see the Karate Kid star put his particular set of skills to serious use, as The Shadow’s Edge has held firm at the top of the charts in China, and has so far grossed a total of RMB 1.133 billion ($157.4 million).

While action fans in the U.K. can now look forward to seeing Chan take care of business once again on the big screen, audiences in the U.S. may have missed their chance, with The Shadow’s Edge getting a limited release back in August. There is no word yet on whether the release will be broadened or when the action thriller will hit streaming.

Turning to the reviews, somehow, The Shadow’s Edge has not even garnered enough reactions for a critical score on Rotten Tomatoes. Which is pretty surprising considering it’s Chan’s action thriller comeback. However, the reviews that have emerged heap praise on The Shadow’s Edge, with Avi Offer of NYC Movie Guru declaring it “One of the most suspenseful, intriguing and exhilarating crime thrillers since Infernal Affairs,” while Casey Chong of Casey’s Movie Mania gave the action thriller a near-perfect 4/5, calling it “A return to form Jackie Chan and a scene-stealing Tony Leung Ka-Fai lead Larry Yang’s gritty action thriller.” The Shadow’s Edge also boasts a near-perfect 97% from audiences on the Popcornmeter.
