Despite being one of the world’s biggest stars, Chris Hemsworth keeps much of his private life private. He keeps his fans updated about what his family is up to on social media, but doesn’t talk much about the inner workings of his Hemsworth clan.
However, in an interview with podcaster Jay Shetty, the Marvel actor opened up about the woman who has been by his side for 15 years, his wife Elsa Pataky. The 42-year-old was asked what the key was to keeping a relationship going for so long.
“Having fun,” he replied. “Both having a sort of an adventurous spirit, making time for one another.”

“I think the complicated times have been when it’s been all work, all kids and all of a sudden the ‘us’ in the relationship is sort of non-existent,” Chris said.
“You’re just managing a household or the work family schedule and Elsa will be off on work and then I’ll be off from work and then it’s chaos at kids and the kid time.
“And so sort of removing ourselves from all of that and just having time for the two of us and making space for each other rather than the rest of the world.
“That can be so all consuming.”

Chris became a household name in 2011 when he nabbed the starring role as Marvel superhero Thor.
He’s since done 11 Marvel films, with more on the way, as well as dozens of other films that have taken him all over the world.
Jay asked Chris how hard it is to maintain that family unit when his schedule is so hectic.
“I think it’s hard for anyone, really,” he said.
“It’s all relative and…it’s challenging, but we also have opportunity to make it work.”
Elsa has also opened up about this in the past, as she told Vogue in 2018 how different life was when they first met.
“In the beginning it was beautiful,” she said.
“He wasn’t known at all and I grew with him and experienced all his successes and changes, and then he became just so huge and I’ve been sharing that too.”
Chris said that “making each other laugh” is one of the key aspects that he and Elsa try to hold on to.
“When there’s humour involved, when there’s adventure, when there’s curiosity, when there’s openness to kind of make a fool of yourself and self deprecation and all that,” he said.
“I think that’s what you can hold. There’s always that spark and that attraction. But what it comes down to is friendship, companionship at the end.
“The moment you run out of things to talk about and you lack that curiosity and interest in one another is, you know, that’s what’s concerning. And that’s a—you know, you’ve got to keep digging, you know.
What Chris Hemsworth’s kids have taught him
Elsewhere in the interview, Chris opened up about what his three children have been able to teach him.
He said, as a parent, you’re constantly trying to impart knowledge and values to your kids.
But sometimes, they’re able to do the same thing.
“I’d like to say they taught me patience,” he said with a laugh.

“They’re attempting to teach me patience, because I don’t know that I’ve figured it out.”
He said sometimes life can just turn to “chaos” and it can be difficult to keep a level head.
Chris also said India, Sasha and Tristan have taught him the “importance of time” and the “simple” act of paying attention.
“They want your presence, they want your space, they want your focus,” he said.
“And we over-complicate it so often with attempts at sort of more extravagant experiences and things, and yet they just want your time.”
