The Pebble smartwatch resurgence has been one of the more surprising tech developments of 2025. It started back in March when it was announced that new devices would be produced, and we’re now very close to those new Pebble devices arriving. However, if you have an old Pebble, there’s some good news, too.
The big news earlier this year was about the Pebble 2 Duo and Pebble Time 2. For owners of the original Pebble models, there was reason to be excited as well. It was revealed that the new Pebble companion app for Android and iPhone would be compatible with those old Pebble watches as well. A couple of months ago, a closed beta program for the app took in testers. Now, it’s being opened to more people.
Pebble founder Eric Migicovsky announced that a beta version of the Pebble watch is available now in the App Store and Play Store. This is the typical public beta that we often see, meaning you can sign up through TestFlight or the Play Store and try out the app early. Eric says they have 2,000 slots on iOS and 2,000 on Android as well. I was able to get in on the Android test, and there appear to be openings remaining.

After installing the app, I was able to connect my old Pebble Time easily. Once I signed in with Rebble.io, I was able to browse the old Pebble Store and install some watch faces and apps. Surprisingly, a lot of the stuff I tried still worked despite not being updated for ages. Of course, there are plenty of apps that don’t work anymore, but that’s to be expected.
Currently, most of the critical features are working. Notifications sync and can be dismissed. On Android, you can reply with an emoji or canned response. Calendar integration and music control are functional. A few things that aren’t working yet include voice replies, health features, custom canned responses, and more.
