Ten years after fans thought that the Spartacus saga was over, Starz has revived the universe with a fresh take. Spartacus: House of Ashur is a new installment in the sprawling universe that started in 2010. The series reimagines a world in which Ashur (Nick E. Tarabay) did not die at Mt. Vesuvius, but instead defeated Spartacus and quelled the rebellion. The show has become a critical and streaming hit. Spartacus: House of Ashur is available to stream on Starz in the U.S. Additionally, domestic and international fans can stream the show on Amazon channels like Prime Video. Streaming data from FlixPatrol shows the action-packed historical crime drama has found a broader global audience on Prime Video, breaking into the streamer’s top 10 most-watched shows.

Created by Spartacus mastermind Steven S. DeKnight, the series rewrites history by bringing Ashur back to life. In this alternative timeline, Ashur pursues Spartacus and his people, kills many of them, and stops the slave uprising. Marcus Crassus rewards Ashur by making him the Dominus of the house where he was formerly enslaved, the House of Batiatus. However, much of his history remains the same as he takes over the flegdling house of his former master and tries to bring it glory in his own name. Spartacus: House of Ashur chronicles his efforts to rise in Roman society and become as respected as some of the elites — the way to do that is by making a lot of money in the wildly popular gladiator games of death.

What Happens in the Next Episode of ‘Spartacus: House of Ashur’?

Ashur’s hopes and dreams lie in the gladiatrix Achilia (Tenika Davis). Her gender makes a spectacle bound to intrigue the masses, while her skills make her the Champion of the House of Ashur. But none of that happens if she does not succeed during her house’s first high-profile games, the Ludi Appollinares. In Spartacus: House of Ashur Season 1, Episode 5, “Goddess of Death,” Ashur presents Achilia to the public, where she faces her first battle in the arena. With how much the house has riding on this, is Achilia prepared to take on the Brothers Ferox? Ashur was expecting Marcus Crassus, but instead met Julius Caesar (Jackson Gallagher). What do Caesar and his wife Cornelia (Jaime Slater) want? “Political shenanigans bring Cornelia and Caesar to town. They have to colonize Asher’s villa to kick things up and get things going in their direction,” Slater told ScreenRant. She added:

“They’re very much in love with each other. This was a love match, which is not usually the case with marriages in ancient Rome. They’re partners in crime, they trust each other and confide in each other. They maneuver and scheme together. [As for Cornelia], she’s unapologetically herself. She just does and says what she wants when she wants to, and however she feels like doing it.”

New episodes of Spartacus: House of Ashur stream on Fridays. Stay tuned to Collider for more updates.
