The action-entertainer Jaanwar (1999), starring Akshay Kumar, completed 26 years on December 24. The film is memorable for its mass-appealing and emotional moments, as well as the rugged, long-haired look of Akshay Kumar. It was directed by Suneel Darshan, who recently made Andaaz 2 (2025). Hence, the question has arisen in the minds of many, especially Akshay Kumar fans, on whether he would now like to make Jaanwar 2. The time is just right – there’s a demand to see actors in their most macho avatars and the Jaanwar character fits the bill perfectly.

26 Years of Jaanwar EXCLUSIVE: Suneel Darshan reveals, “I have written a script; I may call it Jaanwar 2 but it won’t star Akshay Kumar”; also reveals, “Akshay was BEST choice for Jaanwar; he gave 110% to the film”
Bollywood Hungama exclusively asked Suneel Darshan about Jaanwar 2 and he replied, “I have written a script. I don’t know whether I’ll call it Jaanwar 2 or something else. But I have written a script in that genre. Hopefully, I’ll make it someday. It’ll be a heavy-budget film. Jaanwar was a big action film too. And I made it with Akshay, who was working on relatively smaller-budget films at that time. Yet, I peppered Jaanwar with action, music etc.”
Would he like to cast Akshay Kumar in Jaanwar 2? Suneel Darshan said, “I don’t think he would be the best choice now because the character is that of a boy who is turning into a man. So, I don’t think it’s the right subject for him.”
One of the most shocking and memorable scenes of Jaanwar was when a pack of ferocious dogs attacked Raju, played by child actor Aditya Kapadia. Those were the days when VFX and CGI didn’t exist. Suneel Darshan said, “It was all live. We had a wonderful stunt double for that child. He did a good job. When things have to fall right, some miracle happens. Imagine Jaanwar was planned with Sunny Deol, but it was filmed with Akshay Kumar. And today, when I look back, I feel that Akshay Kumar was the best choice. He gave me 110% of himself.”

Akshay Kumar was paired opposite Karisma Kapoor in Jaanwar and also in Suneel Darshan’s Ek Rishtaa: The Bond Of Love (2001) and Haan Maine Bhi Pyaar Kiya (2002). In Talaash – The Hunt Begins (2003), Suneel Darshan paired Akshay with her sister, Kareena Kapoor Khan.
Suneel was all praise for the talented and beautiful actress, “Kareena Kapoor really did a great job in Talaash. Even today, she’s been my favourite. It’s been wonderful working with her. She’s so comfortable and easy.”
