Call The Midwife is poised to make a comeback with its 15th season in just a few days, following the BBC’s firm denial of rumours that it had been cancelled.
The much-loved BBC period drama first graced our screens in 2012 and has since delivered 14 seasons along with numerous festive specials.
Despite whispers suggesting the series was nearing its end, the BBC swiftly set the record straight, confirming not only the return of the show but also two additional seasons, a cinema-release film, and a prequel series set during World War II.
The broadcaster previously reassured: “The BBC would like to reassure fans that Call The Midwife will remain at the heart of the BBC for years to come. As previously announced, there are two Christmas specials, a new series, a film and prequel series, before a sixteenth series in due course. Call the Midwife isn’t going anywhere.”

Call The Midwife returns on Sunday 11 January at 8pm.
The opening episode of the eight-part series promises: “The Nonnatus team grow increasingly concerned for the welfare of four young children. Sister Catherine faces her first solo delivery, and the midwives attend a women’s lib meeting.”

This comes after a two-part Call The Midwife special, airing tonight, Christmas Day at 8.15pm and Boxing Day at 8.30pm.

The BBC previously teased: “When senior members of the Nonnatus House staff head to Hong Kong on a mercy mission, the younger midwives are left to cope alone.
“As the Christmas action shifts between the sun-drenched Far East and a snowy East End, Sister Julienne suddenly finds herself excited about the Order’s future.
“After years of battling change, she decides to embrace it, work with it, and see what love can do.
“This change of energy reverberates throughout series 15. The new series kicks off in 1971 with several of the ladies embracing Women’s Lib and burning their bras outside Nonnatus House.
“As the year unfolds, we see the team handle cases including premature birth, placenta previa, kidney cancer, tuberculosis and slavery.”
The festive special of Call The Midwife airs tonight at 8.15pm on BBC One and iPlayer.
