This will be a short diary. First I’m very thankful for the participation in the newly created DKPhotographers group. There have some absolutely incredible pics posted and some good discussion. 
 

The technique I’d like to show is “bokeh”. It basically means “blur” but intentional out-of-focus used to emphasize the subject of a photograph. 
 

beyond simply isolating a subject, the artistic application of blur can add a great deal to the mood of the photo. It’s one of the most subjective aspects of photography and there are many great examples of it in images posted here. 
 

there are a couple of ways to achieve this effect. One is to apply selective blur to a region of an image as part of the editing process. Another is to work with whatever lens you are using and get creative with the depth of field that the lens, along with your composition can offer 

I’ll drop a few examples of mine here. They all use lens blur from the naturally out of focus regions of the photo.

also, I’d like some critique of my examples especially  from non-photographers. I really try to take photos that are evocative and not just descriptive. I’d like to know what this adds so that I can improve
