My 2026 resolution: More gratitude, and to move at my own rhythmpublished at 19:24 GMT

One of my resolutions is to meet the harder moments of life and work with more conscious gratitude.

Over the past year I reported from South America, the Middle East and the US. Many of the stories were shaped by tragedy, like families torn apart by brutal gang violence and homes and loved ones lost to war.

As the new year begins, I hope for safer, brighter days for the innocent people living through these realities. But also, that the rest of us don’t look away, or take the more ordinary parts of our own lives for granted.

Another resolution is to embrace what in Latin America we call ritmo próprio, or moving at your own rhythm: speeding up when inspired, slowing down when needed, and pursuing what you want without fearing judgement, just never at the expense of others.
