Digit, thanks to its bipedal form and multifunctional capabilities, adapts to human-centric environments
The company Agility Robotics has reached a new level in the automation of logistics tasks with its humanoid Digit, which has successfully moved more than 100,000 containers in an actual deployment at GXO Logistics’ Flowery Branch facility.
Digit: Artificial intelligence at the service of logistics
The humanoid incorporates a learning system that combines demonstration, simulation and reinforcement. This enables it to perfect tasks such as maintaining balance under varying loads and detecting objects accurately, even under different lighting conditions. Unlike other emerging technologies, AI is designed to deliver immediate value in complex industrial environments.
Far from being an isolated test, the deployment has served as validation of its ability to operate in continuous workflows. The humanoid has proven capable of executing repetitive tasks with consistency, including loading and unloading from mobile robots and rearranging containers within storage areas. This versatility represents a key difference from traditional solutions, such as fixed robotic arms or RAMs.
Human-robot collaboration with return on investment
The joint project with GXO is not only aimed at improving efficiency. The main goal is to free workers from monotonous tasks and redirect human talent to higher-value work. Digit, thanks to its bipedal form and multifunctional capabilities, adapts to human-centric environments without requiring modifications to existing infrastructure. This approach has enabled direct integration into GXO’s logistics processes, bringing measurable improvements in productivity.
