The BarcelonaZ Project
BarcelonaZ is a project that maps Jewish-owned institutions in Barcelona and the surrounding area. It emerged in October 2025 on the French mapping site GoGoCart.
According to media reports, BarzelonaZ was created anonymously by a group of self-described “journalists, professors and students,” claiming to try to “understand how Zionism operates” within Catalonia. The initially published mapping featured over 150 establishments, including schools and restaurants.
On January 4, 2026, GoGoCart removed the BarcelonaZ project from its website after local groups decried the initiative as flagrantly antisemitic and dangerous – especially in light of the December 14, 2025 Bondi Beach massacre in Australia.
Promoters of BarcelonaZ
On October 6, 2025, Enginyeria Sense Fronteres – Catalunya (Engineers without Borders – Catalonia; ESF-C) and Universitats amb Palestina (Universities with Palestine; UAP) co-published on Instagram a promotional post about the BarcelonaZ project, which they describe as “a collective and independent research project made up of students, professors and journalists who avoid individual recognition” – claiming that it is “a project that we have just learned about.” In the caption of the post, the organizations encourage followers to “Collaborate and spread the word!”
Engineers without Borders – Catalonia
European Union-funded: ESF-C states that the NGO “is part of the Youth Internship Program subsidized by the Public Employment Service of Catalonia and with 40% co-financing from the European Social Fund Plus” (pictured below).
The European Social Fund Plus describes itself as “the European Union (EU)’s main instrument for investing in people” through “contribution[s] to the EU’s employment, social, education and skills policies.”
According to the EU Financial Transparency System (FTS), ESF-C was a partner on two EU grants totalling €2.4 million in 2019-2023. The NGO received at least €140,188 of this funding.

ESF-C claims that its mission is “To Cooperate (sic) in the achievement of a fair international society, which does not exclude anyone” (emphasis added). Additionally, the NGO states that its “values” include “Non-denominationalism and non-partisanship” as well as “Respect and Dialogue.”
ESF-C’s 2024 annual report states that “We cannot ignore the Palestinian resistance, a clear expression of the struggle for freedom of all oppressed peoples” (emphasis added).
In April 2025, ESF-C and UAP co-authored a dossier titled “Palestine, the other side of genocide: do you know that Israel uses water and energy as a weapon of war against Palestine?”, which the organizations described as “A resource designed to inform, raise awareness and mobilize the educational and student community in Catalonia” and distributed on Catalan campuses.
In a post on the same subject, ESF-C wrote, “The attacks that began on October 7 have involved water and electricity cuts, the boycott of essential water infrastructure, and the contamination of Palestinian water sources. The violation of these basic rights is a key weapon used by the State of Israel to perpetuate genocide.”
ESF-C “collaborates with,” inter alia, Action Aid.
Universities with Palestine (UAP)
UAP is a network of Catalan faculty- and student-led anti-Israel organizations.
On November 27, 2025, UAP promoted a “People’s Court in the case against complicity with the Palestinian genocide in the Spanish State,” hosted by Complutense University of Madrid. The event was attended by various terror-tied NGOs and individuals, including Samidoun, Masar Badil, Al-Haq, and Raji Sourani.
