Some friends were quick to congratulate Emma Stone on her 2026 Screen Actor’s Guild Award nomination. Jennifer Lawrence, on the other hand, is demanding an apology.

The nominations for SAG’s upcoming Actors Awards were announced on Wednesday afternoon, bringing good news for Stone and a bit of disappointment for Lawrence. While Stone’s performance in her film Bugonia earned her a nod for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Leading Role, Lawrence’s movie Die My Love didn’t get a single nom. And Lawrence won’t let Stone forget it.

“We’re in a group chat and she got nominated for a SAG today and I did not,” Lawrence said during a Wednesday night conversation with Josh Horowitz at New York’s 92NY, reports Variety. “I wrote, ‘WHAT!’ and all her friends were like, ‘Congratulations, Emma,’ and I just do a sad face.”

The actress joked that she has yet to let Stone off the hook for earning the nomination, saying, “Every time she tries to talk today, I’m like, ‘Why are you not saying sorry?'”

Jokes (mostly) aside, Lawrence said, “She’s been beating me for decades, but it’s an honor.”

The “rivalry” between Stone and Lawrence dates all the way back to 2010’s Easy A, the role that marked Stone’s big breakout as a lead actress. During a 2017 roundtable that brought the two stars together, Lawrence revealed that she auditioned to play the movie’s witty, brazen lead, Olive Pendergast, and was disappointed when she didn’t land the part.

“I wanted it so bad,” Lawrence admitted, to which Stone quipped, “Well, guess what? You didn’t get it. You didn’t get it because you suck!”

“Outside,” Lawrence replied, jokingly challenging her.

In reality, Lawrence and Stone are longtime friends (and future collaborators) who haven’t been shy about voicing their adoration for one another. The Hollywood BFFs — well known for giggling together on red carpets, photobombing one another, and riffing during interviews — previously revealed that Woody Harrelson introduced them after they starred with him in separate movies — Lawrence in The Hunger Games and Stone in Zombieland. 

Recounting their first conversation in a 2016 interview, Lawrence said, “She texted me that she got my number from Woody. I replied, ‘F— off!’ And we’ve been really good friends ever since.”

Lawrence joked about the healthy competition between them at the time, telling Vanity Fair, “If I wasn’t her biggest fan, I would’ve Tonya Harding’d her in the kneecaps.”

While Stone and Lawrence have a lot in common as actresses of the same generation — they both emerged as leading ladies in the early 2010s and each won their first Oscar while in their 20s — they aren’t often at odds during awards season. In 2013, Lawrence’s performance in Silver Linings Playbook won her the Academy Award for Best Actress, while Stone was nominated that year in another category, Best Supporting Actress, for her role in The Help. Meanwhile, when Stone won Best Actress for La La Land in 2017, Lawrence was not a serious contender in the Oscars race and wasn’t ultimately nominated.

Stone and Lawrence are now headed to this weekend’s Golden Globe Awards with acting nominations in separate categories. Stone is up for Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy, while Lawrence is competing for the same award in the drama category. So, at least this time, there’s room for both of them to win.
