Richard Helliwell, of Tynedale Square, Colchester, appeared at Ipswich Crown Court on Wednesday via video link in relation to threatening a person with a weapon at the Red Lion Hotel, Colchester, and robbery.
Judge Richard Kelly said the weapon refers to “two razor blades attached to a fork”.
The court is awaiting clarification on whether a medical report is being undertaken to assess Helliwell’s mental health.
The court will sit for an update on Wednesday, January 14.
