Huntington, W.Va. – Coastal Carolina women’s basketball (8-9, 1-4) finishes their week on the road with Marshall (14-3, 5-0) on Saturday, Jan. 10 in Huntington, W.Va. Tip-off is set for 1:00 p.m. ET and will be streamed live on ESPN+ as well as the Chanticleer Sports Network.
ABOUT THE CHANTS
The Chanticleers are one of the highest-volume three-point shooting teams in the country, ranking 18th with 9.3 three-pointers per game and 34th with 26.0 three-point attempts per game.
After spending almost the entirety of December at home, Coastal plays back-to-back road games against App State and Marshall.
The Chanticleers grabbed their first Sun Belt win in dominating fashion, taking down App State 69-53 in Boone on Wednesday.
The Chants held the Mountaineers to just five first quarter points.
Coastal went 23-50 (53%) from the field and 6-15 (40%) from three-point range, while making 17 of 23 free throws.
Through 14 games, Coastal ranks 63rd in the country with 74.8 points per game
Kristin Williams leads the team in scoring with 14.5 points per game.
ABOUT THE THUNDERING HERD
Marshall holds a 14-3 overall record and remains unbeaten in Sun Belt play at 5-0.
The Thundering Herd took down Old Dominion 77-70 on Wednesday.
Timaya Lewis-Eutsey leads the team in scoring with 17.2 points per game, ranking second in the Sun Belt.
Juli Fulks is in her second year as the head coach of the Thundering Herd after a 15-20 record last season.
SERIES HISTORY
Coastal will be meeting Marshall for the 14th time, with the Thundering Herd holding the series lead 8-5.
The last time these two teams met was Jan. 1, 2026, where the Thundering Herd won 87-85 in overtime.
Coastal grabbed a win in Huntington last season, beating Marshall 66-57 on Feb. 15, 2025.
CALLING KRISTIN
In her second season with the Chants, graduate guard Kristin Williams had led the Chants in scoring, averaging 14.5 points per game.
Williams has found her groove in Sun Belt play, averaging 18.2 points per game across five conference games.
She ranks among the best shooters in the Sun Belt, ranking first in 3P% (46%) and tops the conference in three-pointers per game (3.4).
Williams currently has 986 career points during her time at UMass and Coastal.
THREE-POINT PARTY
Currently, Coastal ranks 18th in the country with 9.3 made three-pointers per game.
The Chants are also ranked 34th in the country with 26.0 three-point attempts per contest.
Both Kristin Williams and Tessa Grady rank in the top-25 in the country for made three-pointers, with Williams in second (58) and Grady tied for 25th (43).
Williams leads the Sun Belt with 3.4 three-pointers per game while Grady ranks fifth with 2.5.
COASTAL CHAOS
Head Coach Kevin Pederson coined the term “Coastal Chaos” prior to last season due to his philosophy of tough defense and forcing teams to be uncomfortable.
The stats backed up the chaotic defense, as the Chants led the Sun Belt with 20.3 turnovers forced per game and ranked second in steals per game with 10.88.
This season, Coastal rank 41st in the country with 20.9 turnovers forced per game, and 101st with a turnover margin of 3.0.
PEDERSON REACHES 500
Coastal Carolina Head Coach Kevin Pederson won his 500th career game on Dec. 29, 2025 against Columbia College.
He holds 57 victories at Coastal, the fastest coach in program history to reach that mark.
