SEPANG: A parcel containing unregistered medication believed to include psychotropic substances worth RM10,000 was seized following an inspection at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA).
The Malaysian Border Control and Protection Agency (AKPS) said the seizure was made during an inspection carried out at about 11am on Thursday (Jan 8).
“A detailed examination found that the parcel contained 2,000 tablets of Diazepam 10mg, marketed under the brand name Valium, which are believed to be unregistered with the Drug Control Authority under the Health Ministry.
The tablets are also suspected to contain psychotropic substances listed under the Third Schedule of the Poisons Act 1952. The total value of the seizure is estimated at RM10,000.
“All the medications have been seized for investigation and further action,” the agency said in a statement on Friday (Jan 9).
AKPS reiterated its continued commitment to tightening controls and inspections at the country’s entry points to curb the entry of unregistered medicines and to safeguard public health and safety.
