Synopsis: According to the DCA, the affected batch is Batch No. AL-24002, manufactured in January 2025 and bearing an expiry date of December 2026. The syrup is manufactured by Tridus Remedies, located at Hajipur in Vaishali district of Bihar.
The Drugs Control Administration (DCA), Telangana, on Friday, 9 January, issued a “Stop Use Notice” after a laboratory report declared Almont-Kid Syrup adulterated with Ethylene Glycol (EG), a highly toxic substance.
The alert follows information received from the Central Drugs Standard Control Organization (CDSCO), East Zone, Kolkata. “The Drugs Control Administration, Telangana, has received an alert from the CDSCO regarding a laboratory report that has declared the following syrup as adulterated with Ethylene Glycol,” the department said.
The contaminated product has been identified as Almont-Kid Syrup (Levocetirizine Dihydrochloride and Montelukast Sodium Syrup), prompting authorities to caution the public against its use to avoid serious health risks.

Affected batch identified, public asked to stop usage immediately
According to the DCA, the affected batch is Batch No. AL-24002, manufactured in January 2025 and bearing an expiry date of December 2026. The syrup is manufactured by Tridus Remedies, located at Hajipur in Vaishali district of Bihar.
“In light of the above, the public is hereby strongly advised to immediately stop the use of the above syrup, if in possession, and report the same to the nearest Drugs Control Authority without delay,” the Drugs Control Administration, Telangana, stated.
Members of the public have also been asked to directly report possession of the product through the DCA’s toll-free helpline 1800-599-6969, which is operational from 10.30 a.m. to 5.00 p.m. on all working days.

Stocks frozen across state, enforcement action initiated

The Drugs Control Administration has directed officials across Telangana to prevent further circulation of the contaminated syrup. “All Drugs Inspectors and Assistant Directors across the State have been directed to immediately alert all retailers, wholesalers, distributors, and hospitals to freeze any available stocks,” the department said.
Authorities have also instructed that the identified batch must not be dispensed or sold under any circumstances, as part of precautionary measures to safeguard public health.
Stating that enforcement action has already begun, the DCA said it is actively monitoring the situation to prevent further risk to public health, while urging citizens to exercise utmost caution and refrain from using the aforementioned product to avert any potential health hazards associated with Ethylene Glycol toxicity.
