This week’s editorial cartoons are dominated by the news coming out of Venezuela and Washington following the capture of Venezuelan leader Nicolas Maduro by U.S. military forces to face U.S. drug charges. President Donald Trump’s administration is working up a “sweeping plan” to take over Venezuela’s oil production, the Wall Street Journal reported. Trump met Friday with executives of U.S. oil companies, saying they would invest at least $100 billion of their own money to revitalize the country’s oil infrastructure.

Drew Sheneman leads off with his view that oil is “the newest addictive drug flowing over the border.” Jack Ohman and Bill Bramhall pick up the drug theme. Nick Anderson sees Trump’s moves as the “Grab-a-Piece” prize. Dana Summers draws a stampede of oil execs into Venezuela. Pedro X. Molina shows a Venezuelan citizen silenced by the forces telling him what’s best for the country.

Trump also made overtures to take over Greenland, riling Denmark and alarming members of the NATO alliance. Mike Luckovich sees Trump drawing a bull’s-eye on NATO’s back, while David Horsey imagines Denmark pulling off a Maduro-like capture of Trump.

Other topics in this week’s gallery include Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz’s decision not to seek reelection after a scandal over federal childcare funding; the the fatal shooting of a woman by an ICE agent in Minneapolis; and the effect of free agency on college sports.

Cartoons were drawn by Nick Anderson, Bill Bramhall, Phil Hands, David Horsey, Pedro X. Molina, Jack Ohman, Joel Pett, Drew Sheneman, Scott Stantis, Dana Summers and Joey Weatherford of Tribune Content Agency; and Steve Breen, Mike Luckovich and Michael Ramirez of Creators Syndicate.
