A Fermanagh motorcycle legend was remembered at the weekend ahead of the 20th anniversary of his death.
A memorial run for Richard Britton took place on Saturday, September 13 with over 170 bikes taking part as well as a number of supporters in cars. Organisers estimate a total of £3,000 has been raised for Aisling Centre in Enniskillen with a final total to be revealed soon.
Mr. Britton died in a tragic accident on September 18, 2005 while racing at Ballybunion in Co. Kerry. He was 34.
His friend Dai Williams organised the event to ensure that Mr. Britton’s memory and legacy to Irish motorcycle racing is not forgotten and also to raise money for charity.
Speaking ahead of the fundraiser, Mr. Williams said: “Richard was known as the people’s champion because everybody just loved him. He was just that type of character. Whenever you meet his son Loris, you’ll see exactly what I mean. He’s always smiling too and he’s a double of his father.”
Thanking those who supported the event, Mr. Williams said: “A massive thank you to everyone who assisted me in the organisation of the Richard Britton Memorial Run. To all the riders who braved the elements and donated to the charity. To Boho Community for the use of the hall and cups of tea, and Peter Phair, who did the BBQ for everyone.
Mr. Williams also thanked The Outriders and Fermanagh Motorcycle Club for their support for the fundraiser.
