COLLEGE PARK, Md. – The Maryland wrestling team (4-3, 0-2 B1G) fell to No. 18 Wisconsin (9-1, 1-1 B1G), 28-13, on Sunday afternoon, suffering its second Big Ten loss of the season.
Despite the setback, the Terrapins earned two ranked victories at 197 and 149 pounds. No. 15 Branson John opened the dual with an 8-4 decision over No. 28 Wyatt Ingham at 197. Midyear transfer No. 14 Carter Young continued his strong start in a Maryland singlet, defeating No. 17 Joseph Zargo in a marquee matchup at 149.
True freshman Ryan Kennedy and Sepanta Ahanj-Elias also recorded their first collegiate dual wins. Kennedy secured a 6-3 decision over Carson Exford at 141, while Ahanj-Elias posted a dominant 13-1 major decision against David Malin at 184.
Maryland returns home this Friday, Jan. 16, to face Purdue at 7 p.m. in College Park.
