Foreign Minister Gideon Saar responded to the call from Yair Lapid, who said that Tzachi Braverman’s appointment as ambassador to Britain should be canceled, replying that “Tzachi Braverman was appointed legally. His appointment went through all required stages: unanimous recommendation from the appointments committee headed by the Civil Service Commissioner, unanimous government approval and receipt of the required credentials from Britain. My position is that harming a person, their position or role at the preliminary stage of an investigation does not align with the fundamental values of human and civil rights and the right to due process. Therefore, I do not see the circumstances of the investigation as justifying harm to Mr. Braverman’s appointment or his suspension from his position. I would also note that in my view, the role of an opposition is not person-hunting, but presenting alternatives to government policy.”
