Extra train carriages have been put on to support public transport to Tamworth as tourists make tracks to Australia’s home of country music.

All roads – and railways – will lead to north west NSW for the 54th Tamworth Country Music Festival which runs from tomorrow, until 25 January – a major tourism drawcard that annually attracts around 300,000 people over the 10-day event.

Major regional events like Tamworth Country Music Festival are key to driving visitation across the state and supporting the businesses and jobs that rely on the visitor economy.

NSW TrainLink Chief Executive Roger Weeks said for those who want to catch the latest country music acts in Tamworth, there are plenty of public transport options.

“There will be 20 trains arriving for the duration of the festival at Tamworth station, including one train each day from Sydney and Armidale,” he said.

“Demand for our services is strong, with more than 1200 passenger journeys booked to get on or off at Tamworth station over the 10 days of the festival.”

Roving buskers on the Tamworth station platform will welcome visitors.

“Our passengers could have the chance to spot the next big talent in country music, just as in 2023 when local, Loren Ryan played at the station the day before winning the prestigious Star maker Competition,” he said.

“As well as trains, NSW TrainLink’s coach network will also support the festival with connections to Port Macquarie, Inverell and Dubbo.

“Pack your guitars, cowboy boots and wide brimmed hats – our friendly staff will be there to support a smooth journey and let passengers sit back and enjoy the ride.”

“Beyond special events like the Tamworth Country Music Festival, NSW TrainLink’s rail and coach network also connects more than 365 destinations across New South Wales, Victoria, Queensland and the ACT, supporting regional communities, tourism and access to key regional centres year-round.”

With road closures and heavy traffic expected around the city, a special event bus will operate around Tamworth to key concert locations to assist festival goers.

Along with public transport, other modes of travel are via plane, commercial coach and private vehicle. Police and Transport for NSW are urging motorists to drive safely and plan ahead using Live Traffic.
