Clwb Ruperra in Caerphilly will appear before Caerphilly County Borough Council on Friday, January 16, at 11am for a hearing into its licensing hours.
The review was triggered by complaints of noise pollution, particularly before 11pm.
In a statement shared on social media, the Clwb Ruperra team said: “Hi people of the community. We’re not sure if you’re all aware we have a hearing with Caerphilly County Borough Council Friday 16th of January 11am for a review of our licencing hours.
“The reason for the licencing review is because of noise pollution mainly before 11pm and its down to no fault of our own.
“We have put all the necessary rules and regulations in place as responsible licensees to reduce noise to a minimum to stop this from happening however our smoking area shares the same boundary wall as our neighbours and this is where the issue is.”
Multiple messages of support from local councillors, patrons and fellow pubs alike flooded in, with the team taking on the suggestion of many to launch a petition to support the review.
The petition was eventually launched on Saturday on Change.org.
It describes Clwb Ruperra as “a beloved institution” and “the only pub in the village.”
The petition says: “It plays a crucial role in fostering local culture, providing a unique space for socialising and entertainment,
“we provide a space for an over 50s club which is thriving and bringing people together,
“we also provide sponsorships to many youngsters and local sports teams.”
The petition states: “For many residents, Clwb Ruperra is more than just a venue; it is a cultural landmark that contributes significantly to the local economy and social fabric.
“The proposed changes in licensing hours could lead to reduced foot fall and potentially leading to job losses.”
The pub’s team said they have invested heavily in bringing the venue back for the community.
They said: “After putting our blood, sweat, tears and all our funds into bringing this Clwb back to life for the community of all ages to enjoy we are having to fight our place next week to keep our original Licensing hours.
“Statistics are showing one pub/club is closing per day in the uk please don’t let it be ours.”
