Mitski, the indie-music icon turned reluctant TikTok superstar, has returned with new music. The singer confirmed her upcoming album, Nothing’s About to Happen to Me, with the release of a new single, “Where’s My Phone?” Out February 27, the album was recorded with a live band and orchestra and follows a recluse who lives in an “unkempt” house, per a press release. “Outside of her home, she is a deviant” the release says. “Inside of her home, she is free.”

The first single also touts a music video that bears out that narrative. On “Where’s My Phone?” Mitski sings about wanting to be free of her thoughts while looking for her phone. In the surrealist video, she plays a woman forcing a girl, who looks like her and could be seen as a younger version or a daughter, to stay in her home, while the girl attempts to get out. Meanwhile, an older woman causes chaos around the house. When a milkman arrives, the young girl takes the jugs of milk but is tackled by the two older women, shattering the bottles. Then, Mitski licks up the blood on the girl’s finger.

Finally, a man breaks into the house in an attempt to free the girl. Mitski beats him to death, but other kids come in and carry her out. Mitski lies on the lawn looking at the girl leaving her, like the witch in Into the Woods when Rapunzel shuns her and then gets promptly trampled by a giant. What could happen to Mitski from here? Well, there’s a song later on the album called “Dead Women,” so don’t get too optimistic.
