Nika Egadze holds his nerve in free skate in Sheffield
Egadze came into Saturday’s final segment with memories of last year’s European Championships, when he was second after the short program, but ended up finishing fourth overall after only ranking eighth in the free skate.
Speaking in his pre-skate press conference on Thursday, he had insisted: “Now I know how to skate in the free.”
And Egadze proved that in front of a near sell-out crowd, landing four quadruple jumps to achieve a personal best free skate score of 181.72, comfortably the top performance of the day.
Egadze, who had never previously been on the podium at an ISU Championship, later celebrated with a penguin slide across the ice.
