The buzz about Heated Rivalry is still raging on, but a new Netflix series is surprisingly becoming even more popular. According to TelevisionStats, the steamy HBO romance, which came to an end with its Season 1 finale on December 26, 2025, is no longer the most talked-about show online. Now, reigning supreme is Netflix’s latest murder mystery, Agatha Christie’s Seven Dials. The three-episode series, which came out on January 15, 2026, is a whodunnit with twists and turns based on Christie’s 1929 novel, The Seven Dials Mystery. Created by Chris Chibnall, the series, which sits at #2 in the global Netflix streaming charts, has people talking, but not exactly for all the right reasons.
What Is ‘Agatha Christie’s Seven Dials’ About?
Set in London in 1925, Agatha Christie’s Seven Dials follows Lady Eileen “Bundle” Brent (Mia McKenna-Bruce), a young woman living with her mother, Lady Caterham (Helena Bonham Carter), in a large country house. After experiencing financial troubles, they decide to rent their home to the wealthy Sir Oswald Coote (Mark Lewis Jones) and his wife (Dorothy Atkinson), who decide to throw a lavish masquerade. In attendance at the party are Gerry Wade (Corey Mylchreest), a friend of Bundle’s late brother and her apparent intended, and Jimmy Thesinger (Edward Bluemel), her closest friend. At the end of the party, two of Bundle and Gerry’s friends, Bill Eversleigh (Hughie O’Donnell) and Ronny Devereaux (Nabhaan Rizwan), play a prank on Gerry by hiding eight alarm clocks in his room.
The next day, however, the practical joke takes a turn when one of the guests turns up dead, with seven of the eight clocks on the mantle. Determined to find out what happened, Bundle begins a full-fledged investigation with the help of Jimmy, her supportive but distrustful mother, and the mysterious Superintendent Battle (Martin Freeman), a character who will be well known to Christie diehards. From the get-go, it’s clear that whoever pokes around the murder will pay the price, but Bundle won’t stop at anything to find answers.

‘Agatha Christie’s Seven Dials’ Has Torn Viewers and Critics Alike
Despite the impressive cast, including Mckenna-Bruce, who won the Rising Star Award at the 2024 BAFTAs, Agatha Christie’s Seven Dials hasn’t been universally well-received. In fact, the series has become one of Christie’s most divisive adaptations to date. On Rotten Tomatoes, the series received 72% from critics, and an underwhelming 54% from the public. In the reviews, while the cast receives plenty of compliments on their acting, the series is criticized for being uninteresting, bland and just all-around disappointing.
In his review, Collider’s very own David Caballero wrote that the “three-episode miniseries ends up on the duller side of Christie’s adaptations, with a bizarre tone that unevenly shifts between comedy and mystery and a central case that, as mentioned, is not compelling enough to hold the viewer’s attention.” Therefore, while Agatha Christie’s Seven Dials’ mystery might compel viewers to press play, and even tune in to all episodes to see how the finale unfolds, the series has proved to be lackluster and underwhelming.
With that said, while Heated Rivalry has been applauded since its premiere, for its acting, storytelling and LGBTQ+ romance, Agatha Christie’s Seven Dials is generating buzz that’s not entirely positive. After all, while murder mysteries are having a major resurgence, especially on Netflix with titles like Run Away and HIS & HERS, quality still matters, and the popular yet disappointing reception of Agatha Christie’s Seven Dials certainly proves it.
