At the Board of Peace ceremony in Davos, U.S. President Donald Trump said that the newly launched body will rebuild Gaza and demilitarize Hamas.
“We maintained the Gaza cease-fire, delivered record levels of humanitarian aid – great aid. You used to hear all the people who were starving, it was terrible, you don’t hear it anymore. I want to thank countries sitting here for sending aid in the form of money. Securing the release of all 20 living hostages – there were 20 remaining living hostages, and we got hundreds out. We had 28 that were dead, and the parents wanted them just as much, sometimes more than that.”
He added, “We’re committed to ensuring Gaza is demilitarized […] and beautifully rebuilt, and as we succeed in Gaza, we’ll be very successful in Gaza. We will then move on to other things and work in conjunction with the UN. The UN has tremendous potential – there’s tremendous potential in the UN, and there are great people in the UN. I think the combination of the Board of Peace with the kind of people we have here, with the UN.”
On ending the war in Gaza, Trump said, “We had massive fires, and now it’s down to little fires. We had 59 countries involved in peace in the Middle East, and many said if Hamas wouldn’t do what they said they would do – they were literally born with weapons in their hands – they have to give up weapons. If they won’t do it, it will be the end of them. Many of the countries want to do it.”
On Iran, he said, “In another great victory, we obliterated Iran’s nuclear and uranium enrichment capacity – totally obliterated all the things they were doing. They were two months from a nuclear weapon. Iran does want to talk, and we will talk.”
