After many years, casting directors are finally getting their accolades at the Oscars with the new Achievement in Casting category. While this category is new, it’s not surprising who was nominated when you also look at the Best Acting categories.

Hamnet‘s Nina Gold, Marty Supreme‘s Jennifer Venditti and The Secret Agent‘s Gabriel Domingues have received nominations this morning for their roles as casting directors for each film. Not only is their success marked by this nomination, but their work can also be represented by all three films having a nominee in a lead acting category. Hamnet has Jessie Buckley nominated for lead actress, while Marty Supreme‘s Timothée Chalamet and The Secret Agent‘s Wagner Moura both got nominations for lead actor.

Sinners casting director Francine Maisler stood out among the crowd as not only is she nominated herself, but the film also has three acting nominations. Michael B. Jordan has been nominated for lead actor with his role as twin brothers, and Delroy Lindo and Wunmi Musaku were nominated in the supporting acting categories.

The other standout this morning is One Battle After Another‘s Cassandra Kulukundis. The film has four acting nominations, one in a lead category for Leonardo DiCaprio and three in supporting categories with Benecio Del Toro, Sean Penn and Teyana Taylor.

Since this year is the first Oscars with a casting category, it’ll be interesting to see if a trend appears over the next few years of films winning both casting and an acting award. With each of the films this year also receiving at least one major acting nom, this winner for this category is definitely not set in stone.
