The European Union on Wednesday strongly condemned the Israeli occupation authorities’ raid on the headquarters of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) in East Jerusalem and the subsequent demolition activities, describing the move as a serious attack on the United Nations.

In a statement, the EU said the raid and demolition constitute a violation of Israel’s obligations under the Convention on the Privileges and Immunities of the United Nations, stressing that UN facilities and personnel must be protected in accordance with international law.

The bloc reaffirmed that it remains a strong supporter of the United Nations and of UNRWA in particular, underscoring its commitment to a multilateral system based on international law and the principles of the UN Charter.

The statement emphasized that UN agencies play a vital role in upholding international norms, maintaining global security, and protecting and promoting fundamental human rights.

The European Union also reiterated its intention to continue providing political and financial support to UNRWA, highlighting the agency’s essential role in delivering humanitarian assistance, education, and healthcare services to Palestinian refugees in the occupied Palestinian territories.
