The saga of Leonardo DiCaprio‘s viral Golden Globes commercial break moment has amounted to one mystery after another.

After scoring his seventh Oscar nomination for this performance in Paul Thomas Anderson’s One Battle After Another, DiCaprio finally addressed a story that’s captivated fans for the last two weeks: when he was captured on camera speaking enthusiastically about KPop Demon Hunters during a 2026 Golden Globes commercial break.

Speculation quickly began regarding who DiCaprio spoke to in the video (below), with the actor’s One Battle After Another costar, fellow Oscar nominee Teyana Taylor, initially revealing that it was her before recanting the claim. But now, DiCaprio has addressed the moment in an even more confusing fashion.

“It was directed to a friend,” the 51-year-old told Deadline, before adding, “At the end of the day, who knows if this other person that I was talking to wants me to even mention their name?”

He finished his brief remarks on the moment with a cryptic quote, telling the outlet, “So, as the lead character says in A Bronx Tale, I’m not a rat.”

Entertainment Weekly previously reached out to a representative for DiCaprio for comment on the moment.

After the 2026 Globes, Taylor told Access Hollywood, “He was talking to me, yes,” before admitting that she “blacked out” from excitement at the event.

“I want to say we might’ve been talking about KPop Demon Hunters,” she said, with lip-reading TikTok users also speculating in various posts that DiCaprio was, indeed, speaking about the Best Original Song and Best Animated Film winner in the viral clip.

Then, Taylor stoked further confusion when she appeared on The Tonight Show the day after.

“Yesterday I thought I broke the Da Vinci Code, right?” Taylor told Jimmy Fallon on the talk show, before walking back her earlier comments.

“Apparently he had two KPop Demon Hunters conversations that night. KPop Demon Hunters was just in his mouth all night. I’m like, who else were you kiki’ing with like that? Because literally that’s how we kiki,” Taylor said, adding that she had “a little friendly jealousy” with whoever DiCaprio spoke to in the clip.

Elsewhere in his Deadline interview, DiCaprio spoke about his upcoming projects — including his role in Michael Mann’s highly anticipated Heat 2, a long-gestating sequel to the filmmaker’s 1995 film starring Al Pacino and Robert De Niro.

“On Heat 2, we’re keeping that one tight,” he said, with the outlet indicating he shut down further inquiry about the project.
