Openreach confirmed that repairs which have been underway since a fire destroyed a telephone junction box in Ellesmere are nearing completion.

The fire, which destroyed a BT box close to Ellesmere Marina in Birch Road, left a number of residents without internet access since it burned down on August 30.

Residents have been waiting for the best part of a month to get their service back and were informed this week that a further delay had occurred

However, Openreach have confirmed that the “complex” and “time consuming” job is expected to be completed next week.

An Openreach spokesperson said: “One of our cabinets was damaged by fire, disrupting service for customers in the area.

“The cabinet has been re-shelled and replacement cables added. Engineers are currently in the process of installing these cables.

“This is a complex and time-consuming job. We hope to have it completed early next week.”
