If you are someone that constantly relies on Google’s apps and services, there’s a pretty good chance you’re also a Google Photos user. And while some have tried to move on to other services, it’s just not that easy since Photos is such a complete product.

While it started out as something simple, the app has evolved quite a bit over the past few years, extending way beyond being a gallery, along with photo and video storage. Google has brought a ton of features to Photos to take many of your favorite memories to another level.

This is a big step up

Google Photos already has the ability to animate still photos, but the motion was pretty limited. Now, Google has removed restrictions completely, enabling prompts, so that users can customize the movements to their liking. As you can imagine, being able to animate images in any way you choose is a huge step forward.

Users will now be able to use custom prompts in order to get the motion they desire from their photos. Naturally, there are going to be limitations set in place, but for the most part, you can let your imagination run wild with this one. While this can be great for modern moments, it’s going to be a game-changer for photos from older generations.

In addition to creating motion from still photos, the new prompts can also be used to apply a certain style or effects to moving images as well. If you’re not really sure what you’re looking for, Google Photos will also make suggestions to help you get started. And if you have something you like but just want to add small tweaks here and there, that’s also a possibility.

Google also shares that these new creations could have audio added in order to bring them more to life. If you’ve never tried this feature, we suggest you give it a go. However, Google does have an age restriction in place for this feature, so if you’re under 18, you will not have access.

Google recently also introduced a meme generator to the platform, which adds a bit of fun to your photos. This feature won’t be for everyone, but if you’re looking to share some comedic images with friends or family, then this tool is going to be right up your alley.
